Four Big Stars Snubbed This Year By The CMA – Gallery
Kane Brown is one of country music’s biggest stars today, so some casual fans (or fans who don’t keep score on award show nominations) might be surprised that the man has never been nominated for a CMA Award. While Jimmie Allen and Morgan Wallen got nods for the 2020 New Artist and Brown’s buddy Luke Combs scored six nominations, Kane — who has scored four number one songs since the last CMA Awards — didn’t get a mention.
When Kelsea Ballerini expressed her disappointment to Twitter this morning after she was omitted from the nominees, Kane was the first to respond to her telling her to “Hold her head up.”
Perhaps more surprising among the omissions are three of country music’s most enduring male singers: Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton. Aldean had a great touring year 2019 and won ACM’s Artist of the Decade a few years back.
As for Luke Bryan, the 2015 CMA Entertainer of the Year didn’t get any nominations this year even though he continued to top the country charts in 2019 and before the pandemic hit, was one of country music’s top touring acts selling out two nights in a row in most cities. Also, being a judge on American Idol puts him front and center in the mainstream to represent country music.
Blake Shelton, despite also representing country on The Voice and having two duets with Gwen Stefani — both of which were huge hits — also didn’t get a nomination.
Shelton has never been as loved by the CMA’s as his ex-wife Miranda Lambert, but he has taken home six Male Vocalist awards over the years and won the Entertainer of the Year honor in 2012.
We take a look at the big stars snubbed at this year’s 2020 CMA Awards. What do you think of the nominations?
