Jack White Announced as ‘SNL’ Musical Guest, Replacing Morgan Wallen
Jack White has been announced as the new musical guest for this week’s episode of Saturday Night Live, following Morgan Wallen being dropped due to breaking COVID-19 safety protocols.
SNL creator/producer Lorne Michaels made the announcement in an interview on NBC’s Today with Willie Geist saying, “I know Jack White is coming in, and there could be some other stuff.” The “other stuff” could literally mean anything and will undoubtedly cause more people to tune in for some potential surprises.
Michaels added about White, “Calling somebody on a Thursday to be here for Friday, it’s complicated. It has to be people who are ready to go. And he’s always good on the show.”
Michaels also made it clear during his interview on Today that Wallen will be invited back to perform on SNL. Wallen was dropped due to being seen on TikTok partying sans mask in a crowded bar following a University of Alabama football game against Texas A&M.
“It probably isn’t the first person from rock ‘n’ roll who partied after, in that case, a football game or a concert. But we’re just living in a different time and everything is scrutinized,” said Michaels.
Like Wallen, Jack White resides in Nashville, and per an executive order from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, “all travelers coming from states with significant rates of transmission of COVID-19 [have] to quarantine for a 14-day period from the time of their last contact.” Michaels didn’t mention whether or not White had been quarantining in Nashville, if he has been in New York for the past few days, or if any special precautions would be taken if White is traveling from Tennessee.
