Unusual Mental Health Tips To Get You Through Winter
We’ve actually had some chilly weather this fall. Are you mentally prepared for winter? This could be an especially tough one given everything that’s happening in the world. As temperatures continue to drop, self care will be very important.
Even in a normal year, winter presents some challenges with the cold and the darkness. Winter has a way of affecting our moods, and not in a good way. Bustle asked readers to come up with a list of ways to get a mental health boost for the next few months. Here are some of the more unconventional ones:
- Take a very cold shower. It boosts physical immunity and emotional wellness.
- Lean into what you’re capable of. Don’t push yourself too hard if you’re not feeling it.
- Immerse your head in water when you feel anxious. Again, it should be cold water.
- Visit a kitten café. Nothing wrong with little pet therapy. But wear a mask.
- Run a half-marathon. Exercise can do wonders for your mood.
- Shower in the dark. This time the water can be warm.
There is some traditional advice, like use a sun lamp to fight seasonal affective disorder. You can read more about these tips to help get through winter HERE.
