Have You Ever Found A Dryer Sheet In Your Mailbox?
Has this ever happened to you? You go outside to get your mail, open your mailbox and find a dryer sheet sitting among your letters and bills. What does it mean? No, it’s not the neighborhood kids playing a prank.
Now that the weather is warming up, don’t be surprised if you find dryer sheets popping up in your mailbox. According to Taste of Home, it’s there because the mail carrier is trying to keep wasps and yellow jackets away. Those nasty little pests often build their nests in porch areas where many people have their mailboxes or mail slots. That’s exactly where I got stung by a wasp last summer. The sting was so bad I had to get an antibiotic from my doctor.
Apparently, postal workers have long known that scented dryer sheets can be used as a preventative measure to help keep wasps and yellow jackets away because they typically don’t like very aromatic things. And if you see any nests forming in or near your mailbox, do your letter carrier a favor and get rid of them. The Amazon, FedEx, and UPS folks would most certainly appreciate that, too.
