Dolly Parton’s Nephew Releases Rap Version Of ‘9 to 5’
I’ll be honest. I didn’t think I’d dig this but I do! It’s really good!
So Dolly Parton’s nephew, Sabyn, has recorded her classic song ‘9 to 5’ but with a twist. “9 to 5 to 9” uses the same backbeat and chorus as the original 1981 classic, however, Sabyn’s rhyming gives tune a completely updated vibe. Going in, I didn’t think I’d like it, but I do!
The movie “9 to 5” came out in 1980 and it was hilarious! It starred Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dabney Coleman. It you’ve never seen it, you should check it out. It’s awesome!
Sabyn grew up in L.A., and isn’t that close with his 75-year-old country music aunt. He did tell People in an interview that “she is very kind and very supportive and very gracious to me.” We are not close and we don’t spend a lot of time together, but she was so encouraging to me when I came to her with my new version of ‘9 to 5.’”
This isn’t Sabyn’s first job in entertainment. He’s directed movies and written musical scores for television shows. And his updated version of Parton’s song is catchy. Part of Parton’s original song is used and it just works. See what you think!
