Kelly Clarkson, Jason Aldean Talk Old Times And New Partnership
Kelly Clarkson and Jason Aldean are teaming up again, this time on TV as he advises her Team on The Voice in Season 21, which premieres on September 20.
The two stars sat down together for ET and talked about their award-winning duet from 2010, “Don’t You Wanna Stay” and their new partnership on The Voice.
Kelly said of Jason, “We’ve worked together, and mind you, we did it well. We never really met before we did the duet, and we met in the studio. I remember I was so excited, ’cause I loved the song so much, but when you’re meeting someone, and you love their voice, and you love their sound… you’re not sure if it’s gonna mesh, you know? It doesn’t always work out.”
Jason added, “You never really know what two artists are gonna kind of capture in that magic moment. “It was immediate though, as soon as she started singing… and the way she was singing with me, too, how it all blended, you could tell it was something special. It’s the cool thing cause you never know what two artists are gonna kinda have that chemistry.”
Clarkson said of the two working together on The Voice Battle Rounds, “I thought it was cool because, literally, the Battles are two artists that have never sung together, that are coming together to do exactly what we did in the studio. I think that that’s important to be able to blend with other artists, even if you’re a solo artist. We do duets all the time with other people.”
Aldean said of young acts on The Voice, “I think as young artists, it’s one of those things where there’s a lot of stuff they’re kind of doing for the first time, there’s a lot of things that they are not sure of. You can have all the talent in the world, but having that sort of confidence and things like that to go out and know how to use that talent, I think is the tricky part.”
