The Addams Family Lives On In Tim Burton’s ‘Wednesday’
They’re creepy and they’re kooky, mysterious and spooky, they’re all together ooky…and they’re getting a new show! The Addams Family is coming back to TV in the form of the upcoming Netflix limited series, Wednesday. Even better, Tim Burton is an executive producer and directed four of the eight episodes.
Before you roll your eyes at the thought of another ’60s sitcom reboot, the showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough told Vanity Fair that the upcoming live-action Addams Family series is its “own thing.” Millar noted that it was important to them that the show “didn’t feel like a remake or a reboot” and that their goal “was to make it an eight-hour Tim Burton movie.”
“It’s something that lives within the Venn diagram of what happened before, but it’s its own thing,” Millar added. “It’s not trying to be the movies or the ’60s TV show. That was very important to us and very important to Tim.” That’s encouraging. And, really, how can you go wrong with Tim Burton’s creative touch?
The cast includes Jenna Ortega (top) as a teenaged ‘Wednesday Addams,’ Isaac Ordonez as her brother, ‘Pugsley,’ Luis Guzmán as ‘Gomez,’ and Catherine Zeta-Jones as ‘Morticia.’ Even in ghoulish Addams Family-style makeup, Catherine is more beautiful than ever.
Christina Ricci, who played ‘Wednesday Addams’ in two Addams Family movies in the ’90s, also has a role in the new series. Wednesday premieres on Netflix this fall and the first trailer is below.
