Tom Hanks Stars With His Son In ‘A Man Called Otto’
In his new movie, A Man Called Otto, Tom Hanks plays a grumpy widower who never had children. However, the cast includes one of Tom’s real-life kids. The Academy Award winner opened up to People about working with his 27-year-old son, Truman. “Without a doubt, it’s special because, you know, I changed his diapers,” said Tom. “But you gotta get past that right away because you gotta show up and hit your marks.”
Directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace, The Kite Runner, Finding Neverland), A Man Called Otto is based on Swedish author Fredrik Backman’s wonderful 2012 novel and subsequent 2015 film, A Man Called Ove. It’s the story of a crotchety man who no longer wants to go on living following the loss of his wife. His plans to end it all are interrupted when a lively young family moves in next door.
In the new American adaptation, Truman Hanks plays a younger version of Tom’s Otto. Mariana Treviño and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo are featured as the young couple. We’ll be able to see if Tom and Truman “hit their marks” when A Man Called Otto opens in theaters nationwide on Friday, January 13th. In the meantime, here’s the official trailer:
