Move over Bigfoot! Another legendary creature is in the news. You have a chance to score big time if you can prove mermaids exist.
According to Yahoo, Chicken of the Sea is offering $1 million to any person that submits ‘scientific evidence’ that mermaids exist. You have until the end of February to prove their existence. The company is also offering a chance to win $2,500 to anyone who sends a ‘mermaid-themed image or video’.
Chicken of the Sea debuted a mermaid on their cans in 1952. She was modeled after Grace Lee Whitney, who played Yeoman Janice Rand on Star Trek: The Original Series. For the first time in 20 years, the company has given their beloved mermaid mascot Catalina a stunning head-to-fin makeover. They have also changed their logo and have a new headline: “Wild-Caught Happiness”.
I’ve always been fascinated by mermaids. I was a swimmer as a kid and loved the water. Before swim team practice, when I was around seven years old, my friends and I would play ‘mermaid’ in the pool. Now that I’m an adult, I’m still fascinated by the ocean and the creatures that live there. It’ll be interesting to see if someone can prove that mermaids are real. If people can believe in Bigfoot, then I can believe in mermaids!
If you’re interested in entering the contest, you must be at least 18 years of age. The deadline is midnight, February 28. Find out all the details here. Good luck!
