Jamie Lee Curtis Says ‘Matinee Concerts’ Should Be A Thing
There’s a video of actress Jamie Lee Curtis that’s going viral, and it’s not because she’s promoting a new film. She’s lobbying for something that I can totally get behind: matinee concerts.
Since COVID and my insane neck surgery, I don’t go out much. Prior to both, I’d go out at least once a month and was always up for a rock concert. Very rarely would I miss one of my favorite bands if they were on tour. I haven’t gone to a rock show in over three years, and I’ve only gone to a local show once in the last few years.
If I do go out now, I get anxious if the crowd is big and staying out late just isn’t my thing anymore. Coming home at 3 a.m. was normal for me in my 40’s. Now that I’m in my 50’s, I’d rather go out during the day or go ‘day drinking’ with friends. That way I’m home by 7 p.m. and in bed by 9 p.m. That’s a working schedule for me!
According to a video on her Instagram page, Jamie Lee Curtis agrees! In a new interview that’s going viral, the actress says she isn’t about staying out late anymore. She’s asking musical artists to consider doing concerts during the day. Coldplay and Bruce Springsteen ae two of the artists she mentions. She says she loves them both, but just can’t go to their shows because they start in the evening.
Lee says that she’d love to see Bruce Springsteen play for five hours, if he starts the show at 2 p.m. not at 8 p.m. Same for Coldplay. She says that we should start a trend and petition artists to offer a matinee show for those of us who are older. I love it! I totally agree with her. Lots of times there’s an opening band, so when you go to a show to see a big artist, they don’t hit the stage til 9 p.m. or so. Makes for a late night!
The actress also makes another point: lots of the artists touring aren’t youngsters anymore either. She uses Bruce Springsteen as an example. The Boss is 73 years old. It might be easier on him and his band if they rocked out some earlier shows.
Honestly, between ticket prices and shows starting late, I’m picky about who I’ll go see now. A few years ago if an 80’s rock band or heavy metal band was touring, I was there! Now, I gotta factor in the cost of the ticket, parking costs, beer, and the toll it’ll take on my body staying out late. I’m all about Lee’s idea! I say let’s make it happen!
