Ways To Help The Charlotte Humane Society Celebrate ‘DOGust’ in August
I’m one of those ‘crazy dog’ people. Anytime I’m scrolling through social media while at work and Phil hears me say, ‘Ohhhhh look at that baby!’ he knows I’m talking about a dog, not an actual baby. If I win the lottery, I can promise you that all of our local shelters would get a nice chunk of change! Each summer shelters around the country celebrate ‘DOGust’ and you can help! ‘DOGust’ celebrates the birthdays of all shelter dogs. Most pet owners don’t know their rescue dogs true birth dates, so August is the month to celebrate all the rescue dogs!
The Charlotte Humane Society is celebrating ‘DOGust’ and there are many ways that you can help out. Not everyone can rescue an animal but there are other ways to help:
- Volunteer: All shelters in our area, including The Charlotte Humane Society, is in need of volunteers. Not only can you volunteer to work at a shelter, but you can also volunteer to walk rescue pets and show them some love.
- Donate Supplies: Every shelter needs donations, and most have Amazon wish lists. Food, blankets, toys and more are needed for shelter animals. You can see The Charlotte Humane Society’s list here.
- Donate Money: Taking care of animals is expensive, and sadly, many of the animals at the shelter are in need of medical attention. Donating money can help with needed shots and surgeries.
- Fostering: If you are unable to adopt an animal, fostering is an option. When you foster an animal, you give them love and attention and reduce the stress and anxiety so many animals feel while in a shelter.
- Fundraise: You can start a fundraiser on social media. Encourage friends, family, and co-workers to help out in order to raise money for your local animal shelter.
Every few months I will buy bags of dog food and have Amazon deliver it to the shelter here in Gastonia. Sadly, I don’t have the funds to do it every month, but I do try and help when I can. Even buying one extra bag when you’re shopping can help. It’s painful that so many animals are mistreated, and if you’re like me, it also makes you angry. But helping out eases those emotions. Knowing your helping those sweet faces is the best feeling!
