Costco Wants Your Old Electronics And You Can Score For Sending Them In
In a random drawer in your house, there’s probably an old cell phone or iPad. I’m pretty sure I have more than one buried deep within a drawer. Now Costco wants you to trade in your old electronics for free groceries. And with the price of food costs right now, this is a great deal!
Although I’m not a member at Costco, Phil is. Sadly, we don’t have a Costco in Gastonia. Phil often raves about different foods that are available at the warehouse store. He loves the massive chicken pot pie they sell in the fall and winter. Recently, Costco has been cracking down on folks entering the store with someone else’s membership card. Recently I was reading a story yesterday about a woman getting banned from the store for using her husband’s card. A bit excessive if you ask me, however I understand making sure those that are entering the store are member.
Costco Trade-Up Program
According to GoBankingRates, the Costco Trade-Up program is letting members swap their old electronic devices for groceries. They’re allowing members to send in old smartphones, tablets, laptops, and gaming consoles for a Costco Card loaded with the price they’re willing to pay for your items. Damaged and non-functional items aren’t accepted. After send in your items, Costco will be sending them to their electronics department to be checked out before you snag credit. There’s a whole process for doing this, and you can see it here.
Once your electronics are good to go, you can use the credit you get in a Costco store or online. This is a great program! It is allowing you to do some de-cluttering and reduce waste. If you’ve been thinking about becoming a member of Costco, here’s another great reason to do it.
If you’re like me, and not a member of Costo, there are several other stores that are offering similar services. Target, Best Buy, and GameStop also have trade-in programs that will let you exchange old electronics for store credit. As with Costo, these stores are offering a chance for you to de-clutter for a chance at scoring items in their stores. All electronics must be in working condition.
Cleaning and de-cluttering is a pain, but when you know you can get credit at a store, it’s a great incentive!
