North Carolina Man Wins Lottery; Mom Is Skeptical
Remember Aesop’s fable about the boy who cried wolf? Eventually, when the wolves really did show up to eat the flock of sheep, no one believed the young shepherd. The same sort of thing happened to a North Carolina man recently. Fortunately, wolves were not involved.
Ralph Mayton Jr. of Graham, North Carolina has a history of pulling Halloween pranks, especially on his mother. He’s a joke maker. So when Mayton won a big lottery prize on Sunday, October 29th, mom wasn’t so sure that her son was telling the truth.
Mayton told the North Carolina Education Lottery that it all started when he found a lucky penny on the ground. Taking it as a sign, he bought a $20 100X The Cash Fast Play ticket at a BP gas station in Graham. Using that same penny to scratch, the North Carolina man ended up winning a progressive jackpot of $66,982 plus an extra $200,000.
The excited Mayton had a hard time convincing his skeptical mother that his $266,982 dollar lottery prize ($190,230 after taxes) wasn’t another one of his trademark Halloween pranks. The lucky winner hopes his mother finally believes him when he uses some of that money to takes her on a Hawaiian vacation.
