Police Are Watching Holiday Porch Pirates Take The Bait
“He’s making a list. And checking it twice. Gonna find out who’s naughty and nice.” But Santa Claus isn’t the only one keep tabs on everyone. Police in Sacramento, California are on the case, too, this holiday season and they’re doing a little fishing. According to KCRA-TV, the cops have cast a line for porch pirates.
Nothing can spoil Christmas like having presents stolen off your doorstep. However, the police in Sacramento have been successful catching porch pirates this holiday season by using bait packages. Officers put tracking devices inside decoy Amazon packages filled with valuable items.
Many of those caught are repeat offenders and can face a variety of consequences. It all depends on the value of the package contents. If it’s over $950, it’s a felony. If it’s less than that, the person will be given a ticket to appear in court.
Police say if you’re expecting a package, try to bring it inside as quickly as possible or ask a neighbor to retrieve it until you get home. Another option would be to buy presents that don’t come in a big box, like an experience gift. You can see some ideas below. As for any would-be porch pirates, just remember: “He knows if you’ve been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake!”
