Have You Ever Wanted To Tell Someone To Shut It In Public?
My parents often tell me that I began speaking very early and haven’t shut up since. As early as pre-school, teachers were telling my parents that I was a ‘bit bossy’. Of course, I’d rather view my bossiness as leadership skills. Because I’ve always talked lots, it should be no surprise that I’m in radio. Having been in the business over 20 years, I know that not everyone likes me or my sense of humor. That’s just how it goes. That said, despite being a talker, I would never do what a woman did at an event I was attending on Sunday.
So, I was invited to an event here in Charlotte that was focusing on women. There was a motivational/comedian that was performing. In her act, she goes through her life in decades, and discusses the trials and tribulations she’s been through. Oddly enough, our lives are very similar. She uses humor to get through tough situations, much like I do. It was an excellent performance!
Here’s the part that wasn’t so great: a woman sitting behind my friend and I would not shut up. Now, having gone to 100’s of concerts, singing out loud or talking doesn’t bother me. Usually, I’m at a rock show, so it’s acceptable. If there’s an event that’s interactive, talking out loud is also ok. This was a performance, similar to a one woman play. Someone talking out loud throughout the whole performance is annoying.
This Lady Is Lacking Home Training
As the performer was telling stories, the woman behind us would say, sarcastically, ‘Oh really’ or ‘Isn’t that interesting’ or ‘Well, now’. But she didn’t just whisper it. She said these things out loud! In addition to her sarcastic comments, she’d also agree with the performer out loud by saying, ‘Absolutely!’ or ‘That’s what I would do.’ This woman wouldn’t zip her lip! My friend that was with me is WAY nicer than I am, and she was ready to slap this lady!
My friend turned her head numerous times, and gave the lady ‘THE’ look, but to no avail. She kept babbling! I can no longer turn my head and give that look since my neck surgeries. Not wanting to make a scene, I just didn’t turn at all. When intermission time arrived, I stood up and gave the chick a stare.
We ended up leaving early because of this big mouth. And she’s old enough to know better! I can’t say I know her age, but she looked to be in her 30’s. I’m all about enjoying a performer and relating to what they’re saying but have some damn respect for others around you! She had a friend with her, and I can’t believe her friend didn’t tell her to shut it. Maybe she’s just used to it.
I rarely go out anymore, and I have to say that this big mouth chick was a buzzkill during my afternoon out. And I know I’m not the only one that was annoyed by her. I realize that COVID changed the way many of us act in public since we were all quarantined for so long. But it’s been a few years now! Either use your manners or stay the hell home!
The whole afternoon reminded me of a ‘Seinfeld’ episode: ‘The Heckler’ which you can see below!
