Sharks Spotted In South Carolina Tidal Pools

Well, this is kinda scary if you like to frequent beaches in South Carolina! Sharks are swimming in tidal pools. According to The State, sharks are hanging out in these areas on the beach at Kiawah Island. Although they’re not massive, about four feet long, they’re still sharks, and they pose a danger to beach goers.
As kids, most of us would sit in tidal pools on the beach and play. It’s still something lots of kids do today. Officials in Kiawah Island are warning visitors and folks that live there to stay out of the tide pools. They are also warning people to keep their dogs out of them as well. Beach officials are monitoring the situation.

Over the last few years, there have been many sightings of sharks close to shore. One of the reasons could be because of warmer temps in the ocean. Another reason is that the animals are after a specific food source that is close to the shore. No matter the reason, it’s good to keep your eyes open and stay alert when in the water at any beach.
When Will They Leave
Officials are hoping that the sharks will go back into deeper ocean water during high tide. So far, that hasn’t happened. I’m guessing if the sharks don’t leave the shallow water, they’ll have to be caught and taken to deeper waters. With beach season on the way, the sharks can’t stay where they are for long.
There’s no word on the type of shark that’s hanging out in the tide pools. Great white sharks are currently making their seasonal migration past South Carolina currently. In addition, tiger sharks, lemon sharks, and bull sharks are just a few of the species that inhabit the waters in South Carolina.
We all know that if the sharks don’t leave on their own soon, someone will pull a ‘hold my beer’ move and try to swim with the sharks in the shallow water or catch them. And we also know how that’ll work out for them. LOL!

If you grew up in the Carolinas chances are you have a favorite beach town you grew up going to. Or one you take your family to now. We have no shortage of fantastic seaside escapes. Even growing up in North Carolina I have to admit I’m typically a South Carolina beach person. While I tend to go to the general vicinity of the Myrtle Beach area (thanks to friends who have houses and free is for me). I’ve already read quite a lot of these types of articles and now have several other SC beaches on my must-visit list. Just need to find the time to get to them! Recently I came across yet another publication naming some of the best beach vacation spots. And my interest peaked like always. And of course, somewhere in South Carolina was included when Thrillist created a list of “The 20 Greatest Beach Towns In America”. But with so many fantastic destinations, which made the cut to be recognized?
The list compiled by writers at Thrillist details 20 of the nation’s beach towns in a variety of states. In addition to a general summary of the destination, they also make sure to let you know the must-eat spots and what you can’t leave without. You can read their full article here.
