What Was Your Favorite After-School Snack?
With kids going back to school, parents are stocking up on after-school snack foods. That small repast between lunch and dinner was one that I always looked forward to when I was young. It meant that another long, grueling day in the salt mine, er, halls of academia had come to an end.
It didn’t really matter what I had for my after-school snack, but I did have a favorite: Bagel Bites. Those tasty mini pizza bagels started out frozen but, in a matter of minutes, would emerge from the oven piping hot in all their processed glory. Of course, I couldn’t wait for them to cool down, causing me to spend my adolescence with the roof of my mouth scalded and blistered.
Bagel Bites are still around so I can channel my inner-eight grader whenever I want. A couple other favorite snack foods from my childhood recently returned to supermarket shelves: Planters Cheez Balls and Cheez Curls. But there are others that those of us who grew up in the 1970s, ’80s, and ’90s may never see again. Remember Keebler Magic Middles? What was your favorite after-school snack?
