Motivation For Your Monday!
Does anyone else make excuses NOT to work out? I do it all the time! I get up so early, I’m tired, I don’t have time, my back hurts…..there’s always a reason. I’m trying to do better, and work out more. I thought this story might give us all a bit of motivation.
My Dad turned 77 years old in August. A few years ago, unbeknownst to him, he had a heart attack. He ended up having quintuple bypass surgery. Eight months after his surgery, my Dad started powerlifting. My Dad has always been an athlete. He played rugby when I was little, he played tennis lots, and every day at lunch, he played raquetball. Lifting weights wasn’t new to him, it had just been a few years since he really lifted. Most people his age after suffering from a heart attack, would have just watched sports on television. Not my Dad. Crazy runs rampant in our family! LOL!
Over the weekend, my Dad went to the IPA Worlds in TN. This is a competition for powerlifters. My Dad, who is around 190lbs, deadlifted 300lbs, and squated 385lbs. He set two world records! 77 years old, and setting athletic world records. I’m proud of him, and motivated by his passion. I thought sharing his story might help not only me, but others who need a push to work out more. I gotta keep him in mind every time I think I’m “too tired.” 🙂
Here is a pic of my Dad with his medals. Go Pops!
