Welcome To The Family: Kramer
Friday I did something I didn’t think I’d do for months. I adopted a new family member.
Friday, Phil & I had a chat, and I told him that I didn’t think I would get another dog until after the summer. Recently I have met a few rescue dogs via their foster parents. I just didn’t “feel” it in my gut. I thought maybe I just wasn’t ready yet since I lost both of my dogs within the last few months.
On Friday, Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement posted a picture of a dog named Kevin. He reminded me of my boy dog Maxwell that passed away in December. After work, I decided to just go and meet Kevin. I truly had no plan to adopt.
Well, my plan didn’t go well. LOL! When I met Kevin, I knew. I think it only took a few minutes for me to decide that he was the one. The dog was with an older gentleman who volunteers, and they had just gone for a walk. The man, who is in his 70’s, loved Kevin but he didn’t want to adopt him as he isn’t in great health.
After speaking with the gentleman for about 15 minutes, the man decided I would make a great mom for the dog. It wasn’t his call, but I knew he liked the dog, and I didn’t mind reassuring him that Kevin would have a great life with me. The gentleman gave me his email address, and asked me to keep him updated on how the dog was doing. I promised him I would.
While speaking with this man, Kevin came over to me, gave me kisses, and leaned up against my legs. I knew then that he was the one.
I’ve decided to change the dog’s name from Kevin to Kramer. I’m a big “Seinfeld” fan, and I think Kramer fits him. Today is “National Rescue Dog Day” so it’s quite fitting that I am picking the dog up today after work. I’m so excited!
Yesterday I shopped and spent the afternoon setting up Kramer’s new bed, bowls, and toys. I wanted to have everything ready for him, so that when he walks in, he’ll know it’s all his.
I’ll keep you updated and informed on Kramer. And, of course, I’ll post lots of pictures.
