Survey: Mondays Are Productive. Fridays…Not So Much.
I don’t know anyone who truly enjoys getting up and going to work on Monday after a fun and relaxing weekend. However, despite what feels like a struggle to get going at the beginning of the week, that’s when we’re the most productive.
A new Accountemps survey finds that workers accomplish more on Mondays and Tuesdays, especially in the morning, than at any other time of the week. In fact, 29% of workers say their productivity peaks on Monday, while 27% say it’s Tuesday.
Those numbers drop off steadily as the week goes on. Only 20% of workers say they are most productive on Wednesday, followed by 13% on Thursday, and 11% on Friday.
The workday might as well end after lunch because 44% of workers feel they are most productive in the early morning, while 31% saying they peek in the late morning. The rest of the day is a wash, with only 2% saying they do their best work at lunchtime and another 2% who get things done at night.
Distractions seem to be the big hindrance to productivity in the workplace. Survey respondents said these were their top distractions:
- Chatty co-workers (32%)
- Office noise (22%)
- Unnecessary conference calls and meetings (20%)
- Cellphone use (15%)
- Unnecessary emails (11%)
I just hope the complaint about “office noise” doesn’t include listening to K104.7!
