Charlotte Home Looks Like It Was Painted By Crayola
Like a lot of people, my wife and I watch for interesting homes for sale. We’re not in the market. It’s mostly for fun. A house recently listed in Charlotte has caught the attention of many a real estate hobbyist. If you’ve ever wanted to live on the set of children’s TV show, here’s your chance.
Listed at $430,000, the house at 1425 Lyon Court (near Veterans Memorial Park) offers 1,080 square feet of living space with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath. This cozy 1942 cottage has its original hardwoods and new tile in the kitchen. Plus, it’s so convenient to trendy Plaza Midwood and Uptown Charlotte. But the real highlight of this home is the interior paint job.
Realtors will often say that if you want to attract buyers, you should paint your home in neutral colors. The owners of this home clearly said phooey to that. Think back to the first time you did finger painting in preschool. Remember those vibrant primary colors? That’s what this house is rocking.

According to the Charlotte Observer, reactions to the Lyon Court home have ranged from the amused to the bemused. The comments include:
- “Painter: ‘Sorry, all we have is the basic set of crayon colors.’”
- “But only the four-color set that you get with the special place mat at restaurants.”
- “Looks like it was their primary residence.”
- “I actually wish more homes used primary colors on the inside and out.”
- “No secondary colors allowed!”
- “Looks like a Nickelodeon show is filmed in there.”
- “Lots of Blue’s Clues energy here.”
In all honesty, I don’t hate it. However, my family would probably get tired of me greeting them every time they came home with, “Welcome back, kids” and then bringing out the puppets. You can see more photos HERE.
