Simple Ways To Use Fewer Plastics
We can’t avoid plastic products. Believe me, I’ve tried. Plastics are everywhere, including in some unexpected places. My mind was blown when I first learned what was inside of an aluminum beverage can. Plastic! Aluminum cans are lined with what’s basically a thin plastic bag. That was when I switched to beer in glass bottles.
If you think using plastic is no big deal because everything gets recycled, think again. While you might do your part, only a fraction of the stuff in your recycling bins is getting reused. In fact, recycling rates actually declined from 2019 to 2020. At the same time, we’re using more single-use plastics that ever before.
Despite all of this depressing news, there are some ways we can all use fewer plastic products and protect the planet, as well as our health. The folks at Bustle offer these simple tips:
- Bring your own bottle and stop buying cases of water
- Turn down single use plastics
- Avoid aluminum
- Carry your own shopping bags
- Shop from bulk bins
- Be aware of micro plastics
- Shop with sustainable companies
- Reduce and reuse
- Go to clean up days
- Keep recycling and ask your city to recycle more
