In 2020 there were records of 19 hospital closings. Reasons include longstanding pressures, such as low reimbursement, staffing shortages, low patient volume, regulatory barriers, and financial challenges. We all thought they were closing because of COVID-19 pandemic issues with staffing. Recently, expenses for labor, drugs, supplies, and equipment have also increased dramatically.
