Air Force Asking Public To Help Find F-35 Fighter Jet In South Carolina
Dude, where’s my Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II all-weather stealth multi-role combat aircraft? Believe it or not, the U.S. Air Force has lost a plane in South Carolina. I don’t mean it was shot down, although it probably looks like it has been at this point. But the more immediate problem is that no one knows where to find it.
According to WCSC-TV, U.S. Air Force leadership at Joint Base Charleston is asking if anyone has seen their missing F-35 fighter jet. It’s exactly like having a lost dog, except with wings…and jet engines…and missiles. But instead of putting “Lost Plane” flyers up on telephone poles, Air Force officials used social media to announce that it was looking for help locate the missing F-35 jet.
The very expensive plane was last seen flying above North Charleston, South Carolina on Sunday (9/17) when a Marine Corps pilot ejected from the plane during a “mishap.” The pilot is reportedly hospitalized in stable condition. There was another plane flying beside it, which returned safely to Joint Base Charleston. The search for the missing plane is focused on areas around Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion.
The post on X reads, “If you have any information that may help our recovery teams locate the F-35, please call the Base Defense Operations Center at 843-963-3600.” However, there’s no mention of a reward. You know, this is why my dog is micro-chipped. You’d think the military would do that with all of their stuff, too. How about an Apple Air Tag? You already spent over $100-million on the plane; what’s another 30 bucks?
We’re working with @MCASBeaufortSC to locate an F-35 that was involved in a mishap this afternoon. The pilot ejected safely. If you have any information that may help our recovery teams locate the F-35, please call the Base Defense Operations Center at 843-963-3600.
