Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos Gives $3.75 Million To Salvation Army Of Greater Charlotte
It’s no secret that Jeff Bezos has made a lot of money through his company, Amazon. A lot of money. But he has also been giving back. According to People, the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund has distributed $117.55-million in grants in 2023. That includes $3.75-million to the Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte.
The Bezos Day 1 Families Fund was established by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to help groups working on shelter and hunger support for young families. The money allocated for the Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte has enabled the expansion of various services. These include a new Boys and Girls Club, increased support for families seeking shelter, and hiring case managers for housing solutions.
The latest grant from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund adds to the first grant of $5 million received by the Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte in 2018. The new funds will be used to establish a teen center with a separate space for younger children. The Salvation Army will also convert a 100-unit hotel into housing for homeless families. These new facilities will provide short-term assistance with fewer of the usual government restrictions.
Deronda Metz, a long-serving member of the Salvation Army and a licensed clinician, expressed her gratitude for the support provided by the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund.
