Kelly Clarkson Shares ‘Gross’ Shower Hacks to Save Time
Kelly Clarkson performs during the 2023 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Rockefeller Center on November 29, 2023 in New York City.
Kelly Clarkson is joining a growing list of celebrities who have the grossest hygiene habits. While having Kenan Thompson as a guest on her talk show recently, she asked the Saturday Night Live about his new book, When I Was Your Age: Life Lessons, Funny Stories & Questionable Parenting Advice from a Professional Clown. The comedian and actor, 45, wrote a book described by publisher Harper Collins as a “hilarious, heartwarming and surprising ode to growing up, getting older and wiser, and luck, life, and learning from the school of hard knocks.”
Saving Time or Adding Grime?
During the episode, Clarkson asked the Kenan & Kel alum if he specifically has shower advice in his book. As Kenan winced, Clarkson laughed along to his reaction to her question. After composing himself, the actor said, “Well, we talked about brushing your teeth in the shower.” As Clarkson interjects, she admits she doesn’t regularly brush her teeth in the shower. She does it if she’s “in a hurry.” However, as a talk show host, judge on The Voice, and touring and recording artist, the American Idol alum is quite often in a hurry. Hilariously, Thompson says, “That’s fine because that’s where you are in the world,” with a grin on his face. Meanwhile, he says, “I’m on that whole other side where I find it to be gross. And, I don’t do it!” He adds an honorable mention of washing legs in the shower to “get all the way — don’t just leave your ankles out.” Kelly tried to defend washing the top area, saying that it “does wash down.” As Kenan struggles to be polite to her lack of scrubbing, he is finally able to respond, “There’s different approaches to life- that’s fine!”
The “Stronger” singer, 41, takes it to another level when she asks about peeing in the shower, and the crowd burst into laughter. Kenan admits he’s done it, but tries to consciously not do so because he “feels so ashamed.” Meanwhile, Clarkson proudly tells her audience that she does it almost every time in the shower. All of these time-savers make Clarkson feel “productive.”

Kelly Clarkson's Best 'Kellyoke' Performances of 2023 (So Far)
Kelly Clarkson keeps cranking out amazing covers in her Kellyoke series. The singer and talk show host never fails to entertain with her genre-spanning covers. From Destiny’s Child to Lenny Kravitz to Chris Stapleton, you don’t know what song she will put her own spin on next.
Clarkson previously released an album of six of her covers from 2022 after “singing over 500” on The Kelly Clarkson Show, which she said was “near-impossible” to choose. The Kellyoke album was released in June of 2022 and features the following songs:
- “Blue Bayou” by Linda Ronstadt
- “Call Out My Name” by The Weeknd
- “Happier Than Ever” by Billie Eilish
- “Queen Of The Night” by Whitney Houston
- “Trampoline” by SHAED and Zayn
- “Fake Plastic Trees” by Radiohead
Announcing her upcoming 10th studio album, Chemistry, the singer said she didn’t want “everybody” to think that her emotions could just be simplified as angry or sad. She explained in a video, “This album is definitely the arc of an entire relationship, and a whole relationship shouldn’t be just brought down to one thing. So there’s the good, the bad, the ugly thing kinda going on in it.”
In addition to new music, Clarkson will also be heading to Las Vegas, singing fan favorites and new songs, for a 10-show residency starting July 28.
