Study Says Charlotte A Great City To Start A Business
If you’ve been thinking about starting your own business, Charlotte is a great city to be in! According to a new report from WalletHub, Charlotte is 2024’s 3rd Best Large City to Start a Business. The study compared 100 U.S. cities using 19 different indicators of startup viability. A few of the indicators were the 5-year business-survival rate, labor costs, and office space affordability.
Charlotte and the surrounding area are growing at an unbelievable rate. It’s crazy! With all of the growth come lots of new and versatile businesses. I think the type of business you want to open can depend on how well it does. Charlotte has a ton of pizza places, breweries, and donut shops. New restaurant businesses are always opening, but that’s a tough industry.
That said, businesses are doing well in Charlotte because there’s a demand. And obviously, that’s what’s important.
The Stats Of Starting A Business In Charlotte
According to the information from WalletHub, these are the stats if you’re thinking of beginning a biz in Charlotte:
- Overall Rank: 3rd
- 9th – Growth in Number of Small Businesses
- 33rd – Cost of Living
- 14th – Length of Average Workweek (in Hours)
- 22nd – Share of College-Educated Population
- 4th – Industry Variety
I agree with Charlotte having lots of variety in regard to different businesses. In addition, I agree with the cost-of-living stat. Charlotte is extremely pricey to live in. I don’t know how people do it. I live in Gastonia and can barely afford that!
The key to opening a business in Charlotte is to do some market research before deciding on what to open. Having a business plan in place is also important. April 28, ‘National Small Business Week‘ begins, so this is a perfect time for this study.
Unique Ideas Will Work
If you’ve been thinking of breaking out on your own, unique ideas will work here in Charlotte. We’ve all seen the social media videos of folks turning their side hustles into full time jobs. Great place to start!
Over the years, I’ve had a few ideas myself. I keep a running list in my phone. Most of mine include using my BitterMel persona. Realizing my sarcasm and snippiness isn’t for everyone, I think my business ideas would be better online. I think a lot and don’t do a lot, so that needs to change!
Beginning a business takes time, money, and lots of determination. I say it’s better to take the leap than to live with regret!
