Kelsey Grammer Is Making History By Bringing His Sitcom Character Back One More Time

The first time I wrote about Kelsey Grammer bringing back his sitcom, Frasier, was in 2019. At the time, the rumor was that the character of Dr. Frasier Crane would be working as a professor or an art dealer in Chicago. Both career paths were certainly plausible. However, even though Frasier did board a plane to Chicago in the 2004 series finale, the new series is not set in the Windy City. In the first trailer (below) for Paramount+'s relaunch of the hit NBC series, Frasier, Kelsey Grammer seems to have no problem getting back into his iconic character. Maybe that's because he has returned to his old stomping grounds of Boston. Before you ask, no, he won't be hanging around with the barflies at Cheers again. But there is some imbibing. What's New With Frasier? The reboot will focus on Frasier trying to rebuild his relationship with his son, Freddy, played by Jack Cutmore-Scott. They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. In the case, it may have. Freddy, a Boston firefighter, is a decidedly more blue-collar kind of guy than his erudite father. As for Frasier's new job, it appears that he does, in fact, become a professor. People previously reported that Bebe Neuwirth would be reprising her role as Lilith, Frasier's ex-wife and Freddy's mother. Peri Gilpin will also be making a guest star appearance as Roz, Frasier's former producer from his radio days in Seattle. One more thing we can count on is Dr. Frasier Crane being as persnickety and upper-crusty as ever. As the trailer points out, "Frasier is back … and he’s ... basically the same." Kelsey Grammer Breaks A Record Paramount+'s Frasier revival arrives nearly 30 years after the debut of the original 1993 sitcom, which aired on NBC for 11 seasons. Of course, the original Frasier was a spin-off of Cheers. During his time on Cheers, Dr. Frasier Crane also popped up in a 1992 episode of Wings. By bringing the character back, Kelsey Grammer will break the record for the longest-running character on prime-time American television. According to Fandom, he is currently tied with the late James Arness, who played Marshal Matt Dillon on the show Gunsmoke for 20 years. The first two episodes of the 10-episode season will air Thursday, October 12th on Paramount+. After that, the series will drop a new episode every week.
