Jif Peanut Butter Wants Us To Stop Mispronouncing ‘GIF’
Sunday, March 1st is National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day. Jif Peanut Butter is using the occasion to settle a longstanding debate once and for all.
How do you say “GIF,” as in the animated image files you see on social media? I’ve never been 100% sure about this. Apparently, it’s supposed to be pronounced with a hard g, unlike the peanut butter brand.

In a fun bit of marketing, Jif Peanut Butter teamed up with Giphy to release limited-edition jars with two different labels, which should finally clear this issue up. One label shows “GIF – Animated looping images. Hard g pronunciation.” The second one says “JIF – Creamy peanut butter. Soft g pronunciation.”
The new jars are available on Amazon. And Jif thanks you for never making this mistake again.
