New Restaurant Will Offer A Single Pandemic-Safe Table For One
If you’re going to eat at a restaurant anytime soon, this is the way to do it. On May 10th, Linda Karlsson and former chef Rasmus Persson will open Bord för En, which translates to “Table for One.” According to Today, it’s literally a one-seat, open air restaurant in the middle of a field near the couple’s home in Varmland, Sweden.
Bord för En will serve only one customer per day. The menu includes a fixed three-course vegetarian meal, which will change based on what is locally available, and a cocktail pairing. Diners will be asked to pay what they wish for what they eat.
Also, and this is key to maintaining proper social distancing, there will be no servers at the restaurant. Diners will get their meal sent from Karlsson and Persson’s kitchen in a picnic basket by a pulley.
Sweden has not forced bars and restaurants to shut down dine-in service completely, but the couple still wanted to be the only, or at least first, pandemic-safe restaurant in the world. They came up with the idea for Bord för En while visiting Karlsson’s parents’ home, where they shared food through a kitchen window for social distancing purposes.
I think it would be fun to partake of this very exclusive dining experience. If I ever get to Sweden, I’ll definitely look these folks up. I also want to know if Swedish chefs really are how I remember them from childhood.
