Pets Play Major Role In Home Buying Decisions
Most pet owners will say their pet is an important member of the family. Some folks even think of their pets as children. So it should come as no surprise that pets play a huge role in buying a home.
According to Yahoo! Finance, a recent Realtor.com survey found that more than two-thirds of home buyers would pass on their perfect home if it wasn’t also right for their pet. I know I wouldn’t buy a home if it didn’t have a fenced yard for my dog. Here’s how the survey breaks down:
- 68% of pet owning home buyers say they’d turn down a dream home if it wasn’t perfect for their pet.
- 84% of home buyers say their pet’s needs are “extremely” or “very” important when considering a home.
- Another 95% say their pet’s needs would be at least somewhat important when considering a home.
- Less than 5% say pet’s needs were not important at all.
And what are the most important things to home buyers when it comes to their pet’s real estate needs?
- A large back yard (38%)
- Any outdoor space (29%)
- A garage (24%)
- A dog run (22%)
- Close proximity to outdoor spaces (21%)
- Large square footage (20%)
