Wondering How The Economy Is Doing? Check The Beer Aisle!
If you’ve been wondering how the economy is doing during the pandemic/election year extravaganza known as 2020, the answer might be as close as the supermarket beer aisle. As it turns out, beer sales can tell you a lot about the state of our economy.
According to the analysts at Planet Money, sub-premium beer brands, such as Natural Light and Milwaukee’s Best, tend to sell more during a recession. Those beers are cheap and usually sold in bulk.
At the moment, the news appears to be good. While sub-premium beers are selling well, pricier craft beers and hard seltzers, like White Claw and Truly, are selling even better. That could be because middle-class people have been affected less by the COVID-19 shutdown.
What has been your beverage of choice since the pandemic began? Mine has been Modelo Especial because I like a lighter beer (only 4.4% ABV) in the heat of the summer. It’s also quite tasty and the shorter bottles fit perfectly on the top shelf of my fridge.
