Merriam-Webster’s 2020 Word Of The Year Is An Obvious Choice
This was a no-brainer. Merriam-Webster has picked “pandemic” as its word of the year for 2020. That word has dominated our conversations for nearly nine months now.
The World Health Organization declared that the coronavirus outbreak was a pandemic on March 11th. Once that happened, searches for the word were nearly 116,000% higher than on the same date last year.
According to NBC News, other words in the running for Merriam-Webster’s top word of 2020 included:

- quarantine,
- asymptomatic
- mamba
- kraken
- defund
- antebellum
- irregardless
- icon
- schadenfreude
- malarkey
