Invisible Sculpture Sells For $18,000
I’ve always admired people who could draw, paint, and sculpt. Unfortunately, the visual arts have eluded me. Then again, maybe I don’t need to have any artistic ability in order to make money at it.
According to Oddity Central, Italian artist Salvatore Garau has managed sell a “work of art” that no one can see. His “immaterial sculpture” titled “I Am” recently went for $18,000 at auction. It’s literally invisible.
Commenting on his “creation,” Garau said, “The void is nothing but a space full of energies, and even if we empty it and nothing remains…that nothingness has a weight. It therefore has energy that condenses and transforms itself into particles…in us!”
How and where does one display this masterpiece? Garau suggests the roughly 60-inch x 60-inch piece should be displayed in a “private home free from obstructions.” Special lighting and climate control are optional…because nothing’s there!
If you’ve ever seen what appears to be a blank canvas hanging in an art museum, you probably thought, “You call this art? I could have done this.” And you’d be right. But at least there was something on the wall. To be fair, Salvatore Garau really is a visual artist. This time, however, his art was selling an idea without the need for any physical materials or heavy lifting.
