Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship Comes To Charlotte
If you play it yourself or have been curious to learn, you’ll want to catch some of the best disc golf pros in action this week at the Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship. The tournament take place at Charlotte’s Hornets Nest Disc Golf Course this week and the stakes are high.
Disc golf has been around since the ’70s, and the Disc Golf Pro Tour was founded in 2016, but interest in the sport has really skyrocketed in the past year. According to CharlotteFive, the number of people taking up disc golf has doubled or tripled during the pandemic and the tour now includes nearly 150 full-time professional players.
Those pros have been competing all year in order to qualify for this week’s Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship. It begins on Thursday, October 14th with 32 men and 16 women from across the U.S. and Canada. They’ll be flinging their discs in hopes of winning a piece of the $250,000 purse, the largest in disc golf history. The winner of the men’s and women’s divisions will each get $30,000. The best player on the tour will take home more than $100,000 this season. Not bad for playing a game in a park.
If you want to see what all the buzz is about, Hornets Nest Disc Golf Course is located at 6230 Beatties Ford Road in Charlotte. General admission tickets are available online. You can also stream the tournament with a Disc Golf Network subscription.
