Guy Refuses To Spend Night In Hotel With Soon To Be Mother In Law
I realize that different cultures and countries have different traditions when it comes to family and marriage. But this tradition is out there! A guy on Reddit has shared a tradition that his fiance’s family has and he’s NOT ok with it.
According to Bored Panda, the tradition in his soon-to-be wife’s family is that the daughter’s soon-to-be husband must wine and dine his soon to be mother-in-law. That I might be ok with but that’s not all. The man is expected to spend the night in a hotel with the mother of the bride. If something sexual happens, it’s ok. Say what?!
The guy explains the situation on Reddit. The couple have been dating for four years and engaged for one. The girl has explained to the guy that in her families culture, the boy must take the mother of the bride out on a date night. He’s to buy her a dress and something to sleep in. He’s also to buy them a hotel room to share for the night. Ummm……
Obviously, the guy is not ok with this tradition which is why he’s asking for advice on Reddit. He’s explained to the wife-to-be that he’s uncomfortable with spending the night with her mother in a hotel.
She told him that her mother doesn’t plan to actually do anything sexual, it’s just a fun tradition. He’s explained to her that he isn’t cool with it and she’s saying he’s acting like a selfish kid.
The girl has now told her family that he doesn’t want to participate in the tradition and they’ve all reached out to him asking why. Here’s where it gets REALLY weird! The mom gave him a call and told him that she thinks he’s a great guy. She went on to say that she’d like to have a night with him but understands that he has the right to say no.
I had to read that part twice. If the guy DID get a hotel room, the mom might make a move on him AND his soon to be wife is cool with it.
Is it just me or is this kinda like a Jerry Springer show? I realize folks have traditions but not all of them need to be honored.
