Pfeiffer University Baseball Team Makes History
On Sunday (4/10), the Pfeiffer University baseball team beat Averett University 17-2 in seven innings, and that’s not even the most impressive thing they did that day. According to WCNC-TV, the Division III Pfeiffer Falcons may have also made NCAA baseball history by hitting a home run cycle in one inning.
What is a home run cycle? It’s when a baseball team hits a solo home run, a two-run home run, a three-run home run, and a grand slam during the course of a game. To do it in one inning is simply amazing.
In the fourth inning of Sunday’s game, Pfeiffer’s Jackson Leck hit a solo home run. Two batters later, Landon Evans swatted a two-run homer. First baseman Austin Morton later hit a three-run home run. Morton came up again in the same inning and completed the home run cycle with a grand slam.
It’s very possible that the Falcons did something that has never been done before. The Pfeiffer University Athletics Department says that “according to available NCAA records, that has never been documented in NCAA collegiate baseball at any level.”
