Bruce Willis Aphasia Diagnosis Greatly Helps to Raise Awareness
If you’ve ever questioned how much a big celebrity can impact a cause, the effect is very real and trackable. I’ve lived with a Speech and Language Pathologist (my wife of 45 years) so I was very aware of conditions like “aphasia” but unless you’re exposed by working in a field like speech or education, you may not know about conditions like this. Celebrities endorsing causes are fantastic whether they happen on the local level, on the national level and also on the global level depending on how big the celebrity is.
Bruce Willis’ openness about a medical condition making it difficult for him to communicate is having a profound effect. People are learning about the disorder. Bruce was recently diagnosed with aphasia, a language disorder that affects comprehension and/or speech. APHASIA A recent survey shows more Americans are aware of the term, and many say they first heard about it with Bruce’s diagnosis. According to the National Aphasia Association, 68% of people have heard the term “aphasia” — a huge jump from 2020, when only 14% had heard of the condition. TMZ reports 1 in 5 respondents mentioned Bruce when asked where they last read about aphasia.
