Irishman Rows Home From New York City
Mel often talks about how much she hates flying. Damian Browne may have her beat. According to the Irish Independent, the 42-year-old Irishman recently returned home from New York City…by rowboat. In doing so, he became the first person to row from New York to Ireland.
Browne, a former rugby player, left New York City’s Chelsea Piers on June 14th and rowed 3,450 nautical miles to cross the Atlantic Ocean and land in Galway, Ireland on October 4th. He originally set out to complete the journey with his friend, but his partner had to leave on day 13 for health reasons.
The 112-day overseas trek wasn’t really about a dislike for commercial air travel. Browne did it all for a good cause and teamed up with Project Empowerment to raise money for four charities. You can see some footage from his record-setting row in the video below.
