Pro Lacrosse Returns To Charlotte, North Carolina
Lacrosse fans in the Charlotte area have waited more than four years for a professional team to return to the Queen City. Well, the wait is almost over. The Charlotte Bootleggers are about to launch their inaugural season in the PBLA, or Professional Box Lacrosse Association.
If you’re not familiar with box lacrosse, it’s lacrosse played indoors on a hockey rink without the ice. The Charlotte Hounds played the more wide-open outdoor version at Memorial Stadium from 2012 to 2018.
Box lacrosse very popular in Canada and the northeastern United States. The PBLA is hoping the sport attracts a following farther south by placing teams in Virginia and North Carolina. However, the Bootleggers aren’t the first indoor lacrosse team to call Charlotte home. According to WSOC-TV, the Charlotte Cobras played for one season in 1996. The Charlotte Copperheads also played only one season in 2012.
Maybe people just didn’t feel like rooting for snakes. That won’t be a problem anymore. The new Charlotte Bootleggers will play their home games at Bojangles Coliseum. Their season begins January 7th and runs through April 14th. Depending on how they do, it could go longer.
You can see the Bootleggers’ schedule, buy tickets, and even get team merchandise on their official website. I love the logo. Check it out in the video below:
