Dunkin’ Announces Updated Winter Menu

Winter is coming. Well, it’s already officially here but Dunkin’ has announced that they’re rolling out a new winter menu. This is not to be confused with their holiday menu, which was unveiled back on November 2nd.
According to Thrillist, some new and some returning items will begin appearing at Dunkin’ locations nationwide on December 28th. Here’s what’s new:
- Brown Butter Toffee Latte – A brand-new beverage making its debut on the menu featuring espresso and steamed milk with “notes of browned butter and creamy, caramel-like toffee.”
- Bacon Avocado Tomato Sandwich – Another new entry that is exactly how it sounds.
- Biscuit Bites – New to the menu as well featuring warm biscuit dough wrapped around bacon, eggs and cheese.
Returning menu items include:
- Dunkin’ Midnight – A dark hot coffee.
- Omelet Bites – Sous vide-cooked eggs bites available in Bacon & Cheddar or Egg White & Veggie.
- Sweet Black Pepper Bacon – Caramelized bacon with sweet black pepper seasoning. Yup, just an order of bacon. Nice.
- Brownie Batter Donut – A yeast donut topped off with chocolate icing and sprinkles with brownie batter flavored buttercream filling on the inside.

- “Doughnut” is actually proper, but “donut” is acceptable. If you look in older dictionaries, you’ll only find “doughnut.” However, Merriam-Webster’s dictionary now lists “donut” as a variant of “doughnut.”

- Hanson Gregory, an American, claimed to have invented the ring-shaped doughnut in 1847 aboard a lime-trading ship when he was 16 years old.
- The Salvation Army Doughnut Lassies made and delivered doughnuts to soldiers on the front lines of World War I. Up to 9,000 doughnuts were served to the troops daily.
- In 1920, Russian-born Adolph Levitt created the first doughnut-making machine in New York City.
National Doughnut Day

- The first Friday in June and November 5th are National Doughnut Day.
- National Doughnut Day was officially established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to raise much-needed funds during the Great Depression.

- America produces more than 10-billion doughnuts every year.
- Boston, Massachusetts has the most doughnut shops per capita in the U.S. and is home to Dunkin’ Donuts.
- However, Canada has more doughnut shops per capita than any other country. Tim Hortons is the preferred brand up there.
