Starbucks Charges Couple $4,000 For Two Cups Of Coffee
We all know that Starbucks can be pricey, but this is ridiculous! A couple in Tulsa, Oklahoma was charged a crazy amount of money for two cups of coffee at Starbucks.
Jesse O’Dell and his wife Deedee usually go to Starbucks on Saturday mornings. They got their usual order of coffee. Jesse order the Iced Americano and his wife ordered the Venti Carmel Frappuccino with an extra shot of espresso. Usually, their order is around $10. They’ve had this weekend routine for years, so after ordering, they used their debit card to pay for their coffee. They then went about their day doing errands.
According to Food Beast, while shopping at another store the couple’s debit card was declined when they tried to pay for their items. They then found out that a $4,444.44 charge was added to their card at Starbucks as a tip. WHAT?!
They immediately contacted the Starbucks district manager in hopes of fixing the situation. The district manager told them that they were experiencing network issues, and he was unsure whether it was a localized issue or national one. Soon after, Starbucks mailed the couple two separate checks that totaled the $4,444.44 tip, and O’Dell deposited them immediately.
Then the couple gets a call from their bank saying the checks bounced. WTH?! The couple then contacted the Starbucks customer service helpline numerous times and finally heard back from someone. Starbucks told the couple new checks would be sent, but as of February 13 the couple still hasn’t been reimbursed.
A situation like this is stressful enough but the charge didn’t just cause anxiety for the couple. Because of this insane charge they had to cancel a family trip to Thailand. And their tickets are non-refundable.
