AMC Theatres Launches Supermarket Popcorn Line
There’s nothing better than a bucket of hot buttered popcorn at the movie theater. Well, except for the price you pay for that popcorn at the concession stand. And the drinks. And the tickets. There are a lot of things better than that. But what if you could have that movie theater popcorn experience in front of the TV at home?
AMC Theatres is launching a new supermarket line of microwave and ready-to-eat popcorn. According to The Wrap, the products will be exclusively available at select Walmart stores starting March 11, the day before the Academy Awards. AMC plans to make their Perfectly Popcorn line available at other stores nationwide later this year.
The company says, “With the launch of AMC Theatres new line of microwave and ready-to-eat popcorn, AMC yet again makes good on a promise made to our moviegoers and our investors. On March 11, which is Oscars weekend, we will enter the multi-billion-dollar retail popcorn industry with at-home popcorn that features the authentic taste of real movie theatre popcorn.”
AMC Theatres Perfectly Popcorn will be available in classic butter, extra butter and lightly salted flavors. And the price? The microwave boxes will be sold at an MSRP of $4.98. The ready-to-eat bags will cost $3.98. That’s much more reasonable than the popcorn at the concession stand. But how will it taste compared to the real thing?
