Carolina Hurricanes Begin Their Quest For The 2023 Stanley Cup Tonight
The 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs are finally here and the Carolina Hurricanes begin their quest for glory tonight (4/17). The Hurricanes finished their 25th NHL regular season with an impressive 52-21-8 record and they’re the top seed in their bracket. Carolina is hoping to improve on last year’s second round playoff exit and get back to its first Stanley Cup Final since 2006.
Going into the playoffs, the seemingly unstoppable Boston Bruins are the runaway favorites at +330, according to Draft Kings. The closest teams behind them are the Colorado Avalanche (+650), Edmonton Oilers (+800), and Toronto Maple Leafs (+900). Carolina is at +1100, meaning you’d win $1100 on a $100 bet if the Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup.
The Canes begin their playoff run at home in Raleigh against the wild card New York Islanders in Round 1. Expect to see a low-scoring, grind-it-out type of series between these two teams. Here’s the schedule for the first two nights of games in the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs:
- New York Islanders @ Carolina Hurricanes – 7:00 pm ET (ESPN 2)
- Florida Panthers @ Boston Bruins – 7:30 pm ET (ESPN)
- Minnesota Wild @ Dallas Stars – 9:30 pm ET (ESPN 2)
- Los Angeles Kings @ Edmonton Oilers – 10:00 pm ET (ESPN)
TUESDAY, 4/18
- New York Rangers @ New Jersey Devils – 7:00 pm ET (TBS)
- Tampa Bay Lightning @ Toronto Maple Leafs – 7:30 pm ET (ESPN)
- Winnipeg Jets @ Las Vegas Golden Knights – 9:30 pm ET (ESPN 2)
- Seattle Kraken @ Colorado Avalanche – 10:00 pm ET (ESPN)
Raleigh North Carolina Makes Top 20 Hockey Cities List
When you think of professional sports cities in the Carolinas Raleigh isn’t always at the top of mind. With the Panthers, Hornets, Knights, and other teams a lot of people think of Charlotte. And across the country, if you’re thinking of Raleigh hockey probably isn’t the first thing you think of. But Raleigh did in fact make the 2022 Top Hockey Cities List. In fact, it cracked the top 15. I’ll be honest as a huge sports fan (mainly college and NFL), and actually, as someone who lived in Raleigh for several years, hockey really isn’t my thing. I did go to my first Hurricanes game this year and enjoyed it more than I thought it was. It’s also very obvious that the city loves it. That fanbase is passionate and PNC Arena is constantly packed.
And they are pretty good. The Hurricanes did advance to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs this year but lost in game 7 to the New York Rangers. Coincidentally New York also topped Raleigh on this hockey cities list.
Who came up with this? Well, WalletHub is responsible for creating the list of best places for hockey enthusiasts. They ranked 72 U.S. cities based on 21 key indicators of a good hockey city. This includes ticket prices to stadium capacity to the performance level of each city’s teams. The full methodology is at the end of this article. Read on to see where exactly Raleigh ranked and which city took the top spot on the list. (And even as a less than casual hockey fan 1 and 2 didn’t surprise me!)
