Party Crashing Black Bear Helps Itself To Buffet Not Once, But Twice
It has been a big week for bears. First, we saw a black bear cub swim out of the Gulf of Mexico and run across a beach in Destin, Florida. As strange as that sounds, wildlife experts say it’s not actually all that uncommon. Now there’s video of a bear who sticks to land but also crashes catered affairs. You’ve heard of “Cocaine Bear?” Say hello to “Buffet Bear!”
According to the Daily Mail, video footage of a black bear has gone viral after the animal was filmed sauntering up to a party in the northeastern Mexico city of San Pedro Garza García. The uninvited guest is seen making its way over to the buffet table and perusing the options before deciding on an entrée as stunned bystanders look on. Hey, I get it. I love Mexican food, too.
As the person filming the incident wisely instructs catering workers to “leave him,” the bear lets the food digest for a few moments, before heading back to the table for seconds. This sparked the city’s Chipinque Ecological Park to share reminders about what to do if residents come across a bear. Besides not leaving trash around for bears to get into, the agency states, “Don’t feed them or throw food at them, and please don’t hit them.”
Whoever organized this event may want to review their guest policy. I don’t know if a bouncer with a clipboard and a velvet rope would have deterred this party-crasher, but it might be worth trying in the future. Maybe replace the clipboard with bear spray.
