Hotel In Singapore Makes A Crazy Amount Of Money Off Their ‘Singapore Sling’
If you or someone you know is planning a trip to Singapore in the future, then they have to hit the Raffles Hotel for a ‘Singapore Sling’. It’s the luxurious hotel’s signature drink and it makes the hotel an absurd amount of money daily.
According to News.com.au, the hotel sells about 1000 drinks per day during peak vacation times at the hotel. Each ‘Singapore Sling’ sells for $29 each. $29 for ONE drink! Once you do the math, the Raffles Hotel makes a total of $29,000 per day on just one specific cocktail. That said, the $29 doesn’t include service fees and taxes, so the drink really costs about $34 in U.S. dollars. Again, for ONE drink!
The specialty cocktail was created in 1915 at the hotel’s famous Long Bar by a bartender named Ngiam Tong Boon. The drink contains gin, pineapple juice, lime juice, curacao, and Benedictine. I’m not really fancy, so I had to Google Benedictine. It’s a liqueur that’s a blend of spices and herbs combined with honey. The ‘Singapore Sling’ also contains some grenadine and cherry liqueur. The fancy cocktail is served in a tall glass and garnished with a pineapple slice. It sounds festive!
It’s mind blowing that one signature cocktail can bring in that much cash in a day. Many tourists who stay at the Raffles Hotel will indulge in the drink because of its history. Many people who have stayed at the hotel say the drink really isn’t worth the money, but that the history behind it and the atmosphere of the bar makes it worth the money.
Reading about the hotel, it’s truly more like a resort. There are 10 dinning and bar concepts within the hotel, so you could probably stay there and never leave while in Singapore. I just find it shocking that one drink can bring in so much money in one day.
I gotta go buy a Powerball ticket! Winning the lottery is the only way I’ll get to try a ‘Singapore Sling’.
