Dachshund Named Beenie Von Weenie Wins Annual Wiener Dog Race
We recently told you about the inaugural Grandparents Derby held at the Emerald Downs horse racing track in Auburn Washington. The old folks were cute but for maximum adorableness, nothing beats a “dachshund dash.”
According to ABC 7 in Los Angeles, the 26th annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals was held at Los Alamitos Race Course in Cypress, California on Saturday, July 15th. The event featured dozens of dachshunds running 50-yard sprints for the title of “Fastest Wienie in the West.”
A new champ was crowned when a dachshund named Beenie Von Weenie outran the competition in the final race of the evening. The pup had redeemed himself after finishing second in an earlier heat. Beenie would have won that race, too, if he hadn’t run in the wrong direction. It happens.
Besides bragging rights, Beenie Von Weenie took home a brand new doghouse and one thousand dollars. On top of that, proceeds from the annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals benefit dogs and other pets at the Seal Beach Animal Care Center.
Of all the canine breeds, dachshunds may have to work the hardest to run anywhere. Look at those little legs go in the video below:
