2023 Sheepdog Trials And Dog Festival At Rural Hill Farm This Weekend
If you’re a dog lover like I am, you’ll want to be in Huntersville this weekend. The annual Sheepdog Trials and Dog Festival return to Historic Rural Hill Farm in Huntersville, NC, November 4th and 5th.
The weekend will include the United States Border Collie Handlers Association championships, the Carolina Dock Dogs and Canine Agility Club competitions, as well as other dog sport demonstrations. Anytime I watch events like this, where dogs are tested for their herding abilities, obedience and agility, I realize how much smarter canines can be than humans. There’s no way I could maneuver through the obstacles and respond to commands with such speed and precision.
In addition to the trials themselves, you can enjoy local food and drink vendors, shopping, hayrides, antique tractors, not-so-antique alpacas, pumkin’ chunkin’, corn launchin’, and demonstrations by skilled dog trainers. Bring your dogs (on a leash), they might learn something! Parental Warning: There will also be on-site pet adoptions so be prepared to hear, “Please, can we get one!?!”
For the first time ever, Historic Rural Hill will be hosting “Huntersville’s Next Top Dog Show.” Categories in this prestigious competition include Fluffiest Coat, Curliest Tail, Silliest Name, and Best Trick. Registration is $5 per dog and the contest starts at 2:00 p.m. Sign up at the ticket tent as you enter.
The Sheepdog Trials and Dog Festival will go on rain or shine. Historic Rural Hill is located at 4431 Neck Road in Huntersville, NC. You can get tickets and more information here.
