The Most Popular Dog Names In North Carolina, South Carolina, And The USA
One of my favorite things about taking my pup to doggy daycare or the park is hearing what other people have named their dogs. I tend to like dog names that are also very common human names. My brother-in-law used to have a dog named Bob, which also happens to be my father-in-law’s name. One of my favorites at doggy daycare is Saul. Someday, I hope to find out if Saul’s human’s last name is Goodman.
U.S. News & World Report has released the results of its research into America’s most popular dog names. Not only does the study rank the most popular choices nationwide, it also breaks them down state by state. There are definitely some consistencies in the top five spots from one state to the next.
Bella is overwhelmingly the most popular name for dogs across the country, topping the list in 37 states and the District of Columbia. Luna, the nation’s second most popular dog name, is the top moniker in eight states. That’s also their order of popularity in both North and South Carolina.
The breakdown begins to change after that. Max, Daisy, and Charlie are the next three most popular dog names in the USA. However, it goes Daisy, Max, and Charlie in North Carolina. And rounding out the top five dog names in South Carolina are Max, Charlie, and Buddy.
We’re definitely on trend in my neighborhood. My dog’s name is Daisy, and one of my next door neighbors has a dog named Bella. But we also have a Baxter, Juliet, Boots, Iggy, and Lafayette on our block. It’s nice to have a little variety. You can see the full report HERE.
