Best Wine Pairings For Your Thanksgiving Feast
Thanksgiving dinner is more than just the turkey, side dishes, and desserts. Your guests will also be expecting something good to drink with the feast. While beer might be the go-to beverage during the football games, the holiday meal usually calls for something a little more sophisticated like wine.
The experts from Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits in Columbia, South Carolina, have put together a list of the best wines to pair with your Thanksgiving feast this month. They say it’s a good idea to have both red and white wine available for dinner. Here are their recommendations for your holiday gathering:
Best Wine Varietals for Thanksgiving 2023
- Cabernet Franc: A nice Cabernet Franc is suggested for its balance of red fruits, herbaceous notes, and earthiness, complementing turkey and a variety of side dishes.
- Grenache: Grenache-based red wines, such as Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, and Vacqueyras from France, are recommended for pairing with traditional Thanksgiving meals.
- Pecorino: A bottle of wine made from the Pecorino grape can be a great gift for your host. This lesser-known white wine has notes of jasmine, peach, and a hint of salty minerality and crisp, bright acidity.
- Pinot Noir: Traditionally, this is the top wine to pair with turkey because it’s usually lighter than a cabernet or merlot, and its earthy, berry flavors match well with poultry.
- Prosecco: Praised for its versatility with sweet and savory Thanksgiving dishes, Prosecco is a perennial favorite.
- Sherry: Palomino and Moscatel grapes in various Sherry styles are recommended for pairing with Thanksgiving meals. They provide a versatile accompaniment to turkey, duck, or game birds.
